Renée Brinkerhoff’s World Rally Tour: Seven Continents in a Porsche 356 chronicles an unprecedented journey: nearly 20,000 miles of rallying across all seven continents in a 1956 Porsche 356A.
Working with author and publisher Sean Cridland, I designed the book and cover, bringing together 250 pages and 339 images into a visual narrative of competition, perseverance, and purpose. Beyond documenting Brinkerhoff’s racing achievements, the book tells how she used the attention generated by the tour to raise awareness and funds in the fight against human trafficking.

Context
The book traces Brinkerhoff’s evolution from a first-time racer to the first driver to pilot the same car on all seven continents. Its story spans the La Carrera Panamericana, Targa Tasmania, Rally Caminos del Inca, Peking to Paris, the East African Safari, and a final expedition across Antarctica.
The challenge was to organize years of racing, international travel, personal history, and advocacy into a publication that felt both comprehensive and emotionally engaging. Hundreds of photographs from different contributors, environments, and eras needed to form one continuous story without losing the distinct character of each chapter.
Approach
I developed an editorial system that could accommodate long-form writing, archival material, technical details, captions, and expansive photography while maintaining clarity and momentum throughout the book.
Each rally was given room to establish its own atmosphere, from the heat and dust of open-road competition to the stark isolation of Antarctica. Varied image scales, structured typography, and shifts between dense documentary sequences and quieter reflective moments created a rhythm that echoed the journey itself.
The cover and interior were designed as one cohesive experience, balancing the visual energy of motorsport with the human story at the center of the project.
Outcome
The finished book transforms a complex, multi-year expedition into an accessible and immersive visual record. It celebrates Brinkerhoff’s historic achievement while preserving the people, places, and challenges that shaped the Project 356 World Rally Tour.
More than a motorsport book, it connects adventure with advocacy—extending the mission of Valkyrie Racing and Valkyrie Gives by using Brinkerhoff’s story to bring greater attention to the global fight against human trafficking.
