The Pagani Utopia sits at the intersection of sculpture, engineering, and craftsmanship. For this Motor1 feature, I commissioned automotive and lifestyle photographer Sevian Daupi to create a body of work that captured the car’s intricate details and dramatic presence through a softer, more atmospheric lens.
The resulting photography moves between the workshop, open road, and surrounding landscape, while a companion social video extends the visual story through motion.
Context
Our automotive photography often relied on clear weather, saturated color, and a more traditional sense of speed. With overcast conditions forecast for the Utopia shoot, I saw an opportunity to introduce a different mood and bring greater variety to our visual coverage.
I selected Sevian for his experience photographing premium automotive and lifestyle brands, as well as his familiarity with Italy’s automotive culture. His artistic, dreamlike approach felt especially suited to a car defined as much by its craftsmanship and personality as its performance.
Approach
I developed a photography direction that balanced precision with atmosphere. The shot plan moved from intimate details of the Utopia’s materials, controls, and exposed mechanical elements to environmental portraits, workshop moments, aerial perspectives, and dynamic driving imagery.
Rather than fighting the muted weather, we used the soft, diffused light and subdued landscape to emphasize the car’s sculptural form. Sevian’s restrained color palette, considered framing, and selective focus brought a sense of intimacy to the images while preserving the scale and drama expected of a Pagani.
The visual direction was also carried into a social video, using motion to complement the still photography and create an additional way for audiences to experience the vehicle.
Outcome
The finished work presents the Pagani Utopia as more than an exotic car. It reveals the human craftsmanship, tactile details, and emotion behind its design while giving Motor1 a distinctive visual package for editorial and social platforms.
The combination of photography and motion created a flexible body of content that felt elevated, cinematic, and noticeably different from our more conventional automotive shoots.
